Staddle 2016

Staddle explores the interplay of light and material. LEDs illuminate the oak from which the lamp is made, revealing the beauty of the material. In turn, the lamp imbues a warmth to the surroundings. The intention was to evoke the atmosphere experienced in a wood-panelled room.

The form bears an unwitting resemblance to staddle stones - stone columns used to elevate granaries above ground level. Unaware of their former function, I recall seeing these odd forms as a child on visits to the Cotswolds, where redundant stones were used as garden ornaments.

Oak, finished in raw oil.
